FAIR WORK ACTION PLAN

SMH recognise that they are a small business with regards workforce but its aims are to create a diverse and inclusive workplaces where employees have security of pay and work contracts. With opportunity to develop and utilise their skills whilst having an effective voice in the workplace.

As an employer SMH is committed to adopting the following criteria:

  • Appropriate channels for effective voice.
  • Investment in workforce development.
  • No inappropriate use of zero hours contracts.
  • Actions to tackle the gender pay gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace are as follows:-Where possible include multiple women in shortlists for recruitment and promotions.
    Use skill-based assessment tasks in recruitment
    Use structured interviews for recruitment and promotions that:

    • Ask exactly the same questions of all candidates in a predetermined order and format
    • Grade the responses using pre-specified, standardised criteria. This makes the responses comparable and reduces the impact of unconscious bias
  • Introduce transparency to promotion, pay and reward processes

  • Payment of the Real Living Wage.

    SMH believe the adoption of the above will make the business more competitive by improving talent attraction, reducing staff turnover and absenteeism while improving motivation and workforce engagement.
