Seaboard Celebrates The Year of Stories
This year’s Fisherfolk Festival was themed around Scotland’s Year of Stories and we were delighted that so many people came along and supported the Festival.
Storytelling
Funding from VisitScotland’s 2022 Year of Storytelling has added the participation of three resident storytellers plus the Pictish domestic re-enactment group the Rhynie Wifies. Ian Stephen of Lewis will share his rich accounts of fishing and the sea, Ross-shire favourite Bob Pegg his celebrated expertise of the tales and music of the Picts, and Pauline Cordiner of Aberdeen stories of the sea and the Vikings. Seaboard Centre, Maureen Ross recruited Cromarty-based storyteller and author Ewan McVicar to help organise the song and story elements of the Festival.
William Paterson Salmon Fisher
We are delighted to have two showings of the film produced by Stephen Macmillan documenting the last cast of local man, William Paterson from a villagers salmon fishing family. The film will be shown on Friday 27th & Saturday 28th at 3pm in the Seaboard Centre, main hall.
Fisherfolk Exhibition
Fisherfolk Festival Fishing Exhibition including photographs, artefacts and other memorabilia.
Fisherfolk Street Party
Much of the activity was within and in front of the Seaboard Centre, with food stalls, crafts and of course fish and chips, local authors, exhibition, film by Stephen Macmillan documenting the last cast of Easter Ross salmon fishing family and an outdoor dance event, an Open Day at the Pictish stone site in Hilton, and events in the newly opened John Ross Visitor Centre, in Paterson Fish Stores, to finishing each evening Tap Room Tales in the Balintore Inn, and a final concert in Nigg Old Church.
Songs of Praise
Another highlight of the Fisherfolk Festival is the Songs of Praise, held again this year at the Paterson Fishing Stores in Hilton.
